A concrete mixer truck earns money only while the drum keeps turning. Because the mixing body runs constantly under heavy, abrasive load, small problems escalate fast — and a breakdown with a full drum of concrete is expensive. This maintenance checklist keeps your mixers reliable.
Daily checks (before every shift)
- Check hydraulic oil level and look for leaks around the pump, motor and hoses.
- Listen for unusual noise from the drum drive and rollers.
- Confirm the water tank, pump and pipes work — you need water to wash out every load.
- Inspect the discharge chute for cracks and heavy wear.
The hydraulic system
The pump and motor that turn the drum are the heart of the mixer. Keep the hydraulic oil clean and topped up, change the hydraulic filter on schedule, and keep the oil cooler clear of dried concrete and dust. Contaminated oil is the number-one killer of mixer pumps and motors.
Drum, blades and rollers
- Mixing blades wear down over time, which reduces mixing quality and slows discharge — inspect and replace worn spiral blades.
- Support and thrust rollers carry the whole drum. Grease them regularly and replace worn roller bearings before they seize.
- Keep the rolling ring and rollers aligned to avoid uneven wear.
Wash out every time
The single most important habit is to wash the drum, chute and hopper after every load. Hardened concrete builds up inside the drum, adds dead weight, unbalances the drum, and is extremely hard to remove later.
Don’t forget the chassis
A mixer is still a heavy truck — keep up with engine oil and filters, brakes, tyres and the driveline just as you would on any SINOTRUK, SHACMAN or SANY chassis.
