Why wind matters so much
Wind acts on a large surface area — the load, the boom and the rigging — and the force rises sharply as speed increases. A gust can swing a suspended load, overload the boom, or reduce the crane's stability margin. Most crane manufacturers publish a maximum permissible wind speed for each configuration; exceed it and the load chart no longer applies.
Wireless vs wired
A wireless anemometer mounts the sensor at the boom tip — where the wind actually is — and sends the reading to a handheld or cab display by radio. That means:
